Christmas time is candy time!
This super easy and amazingly addictive treat is a long time favorite of mine, but guess what! This is my very first year making it myself! I always hope to get some from a friend or a child from our Sunday School class {goes to show that this treat is a well desired gift}.
This year, I decided not to wait…
Make some. Start Now. And Enjoy!
So here is how you do it…
-
Line jelly roll pan with foil and spray with non-stick spray.
- Lay out as many Saltine crackers you can flat onto the pan (approx. 30-40 crackers)
- In a saucepan, melt 1 cup butter and 1 cup brown sugar together until “frothy” on top (slightly foamy looking).
- Whisk the butter/sugar mixture together so that you don’t leave a buttery layer on top of the mixture.
- Pour over the crackers & spread evenly with a scraper.
- Bake at 350 degrees for 10 minutes.
- Remove from the oven and immediately sprinkle 12 oz. semi-sweet chocolate chips over the top of the toffee.
- Allow the chocolate chips to sit on top and melt from the heat; then spread to cover the whole pan evenly.
- Sprinkle 2-3 crushed saltine crackers over the top of the chocolate layer and allow to set completely.
- *Optional, I sprinkled some sea salt over the top of the chocolate as well!
- Once set, use a large knife to cut into pieces (or just break into pieces with your hands).
- Enjoy!!
